Description

The Lake & Air Amphibian Gear Advisory System is a solid state micro-computer that continuously monitors the aircraft speed and landing gear position.  At a predetermined airspeed threshold during the approach to landing, both an aural and a visual advisory will annunciate to alert the pilot of the actual landing gear configuration.  The reminder is repeated until the pilot touches the annunciator to silence the message.  It is armed and ready any time there is normal electrical power to the aircraft.

SPECIFICATIONS:

Weight: 14 oz.

Power Requirements: 10-28 VDC; 2 amps

Size: Computer - 5.25" L x 3" W x 2" H

        Annunciator – 3/4" H x 1” W x 2” H

Additional Information:

The Air Data Computer (ADC) is normally mounted somewhere behind the instrument panel within easy access (for airspeed and/or volume control adjustments, if necessary).  The Annunciator is to be mounted on the instrument panel within plain view of the pilot and within easy reach of his/her throttle hand.  The ADC is connected to the pitot system, landing gear indicator lights and the GEAR Advisory annunciator light.  Electrical power comes directly from a “hot” buss so that the system operates any time the aircraft has electrical power.  There is no ON-OFF switch.

FAA/PMA approved.  STC/STA’d for many different amphibious aircraft and/or float combinations.  Included are the Lake, SeaBee, Widgeon, Goose, Mallard, Albatross, many Cessna models, Piper, Maule, Husky, Helio, Beaver, Otter and Twin Otter!  Readily adapts to EDO, PK, Baumann, and Wipline amphibious floats.

The ADC monitors airspeed and reads aircraft gear position.  A given airspeed threshold is determined yt the user and set into the ADC for the particular type of aircraft.  This airspeed range is from 50 mph (44k) to 125 mph (109k) and can be easily changed in 5 mph increments by turning a 16-position screw on the side of the ADC itself.  As an example, the desired threshold value is set at 80 mph.  During takeoff and climb out, as the airspeed of the aircraft increase through 80 mph, the system is now armed.  The ADC continually monitors the gear position and watches the airspeed.  As the aircraft begins to slow for landing and the airspeed decreases to the airspeed threshold (80 mph), the ADC simultaneously sends both an aural and visual warning to the pilot.  The amber GEAR Advisory annunciator light will blink and a gear position message will be repeated every 3.5 seconds.  One of several audio messages will be hears: “GEAR IS UP FOR WATER LANDING” or “GEAR IS DOWN FOR RUNWAY LANDING.”  In addition, if any one or more of the landing gear is not fully up or fully down, the ADC will recognize this irregularity.  The continuous audio message “CHECK GEAR, CHECK GEAR, …” will be heard instead.  This provides the pilot with an additional reminder.  The pilot has the ability to silence the message at any time by simply pressing the GEAR Advisory annunciator light.  In the event of a go-around, the system will re-arm itself once the airspeed reaches or exceeds the threshold.  The number of re-arming cycles is endless.
